Royal Thames Yacht Club

The Royal Thames is the oldest yacht club in the United Kingdom with royal connections. The present Commodore is HRH The Duke of York. The Club was formed in 1775 by the Duke of Cumberland, brother of George III, who gave a series of cups for yacht racing on the Thames. Many of these original trophies (the first in yachting) are on display in the Club in Knightsbridge.

With its programme of racing and cruising the Club plays a leading role in the UK and attracts many of the top sailors as members. It is involved in a wide range of yachting events for both the cruising and racing yachtsman, motor yacht owners and all those interested in the sea.

The Club participates in numerous racing events both in the UK and overseas. It is particularly active in keelboat team racing and regularly competes with other leading clubs in the world throughout the UK or in places such as the British Virgin Islands and the Mediterranean.

The Royal Thames Yacht Club remains centred in London with a superb clubhouse in Knightsbridge, overlooking Hyde Park. The Knightsbridge clubhouse is a haven for those who want a relaxing and exclusive land base in London. There are two bars, reading rooms, an excellent restaurant and accommodation.
